Welcome to Lifelong YarnS
Lifelong skill in the craft of knitting. Lifelong husbandry of the sheep and the land. We are one of the first to offer knitters and crocheters luxury yarns spun from the fleece of the Scottish Blackface sheep. Grown and spun in the Borders of Scotland, our yarn blends are designed to create garments which last a lifetime.
Explore our site, learn our story and join us in the rediscovery of real fleece.
The publicity material for St. Abb's Wool Festival has arrived. This will be Lifelong Yarn's first festival as a vendor - a dream come true. Then reality kicks in as the amount of preparation becomes clear.
Noticeably now the days are drawing in. I've had the fire on for a good while now in the evenings as the temperature begins to drop.
Di Gilpin's lecture at the Perth Yarn Festival this weekend made my heart sing. As well as interesting anecdotes about her 30 years in the knitting world and fabulous photos of her beautiful hand-knitted garments strutting the catwalks of europe, she talked to the past, present and future of hand-knitting.
It's difficult, this naming business. So difficult. Keeping- you -awake- until -2.30am -every- night difficult. There is so much I wish to encapsulate in this one word...
I should have felt nervous. Josie our shepherdess had shorn the gimmers (ewe lambs in their second year) and left the ten best fleeces for me in the barn. This was the moment when I would discover if all my dreaming and planning had been foolish at best.
